One of the things I was hoping for in my journey is to encounter “universal coincidence” in a clear way. A while ago, I wrote about my spiritual encounter in Uvita, which was profound in itself. However, I’ve had so many experiences of people showing up, just when I needed them, that I am delighted to see the universe really is conspiring in our best interest. Here are some wonderful examples of how people showed up:
- While walking to see a waterfall in Uvita, a man tried to entice me to visit his “secret place”. While I did get away from him on the way up, I was afraid I’d run into him again walking down. While at the waterfall, I met a lovely couple. They left before I did, but saw me later, walking down from the waterfall, and offered me a ride in their car. Saved!
- I met a lovely German couple in Corcovado. About three weeks later, I went to Panama (unexpected) and needed some sun protection, and ran into them in a store. Neither of us knew we planned to be in that town at that time, and had I not gone into that shop at that moment, I would not have seen them!
- I met Maggie and Lloyd, a wonderful couple from Victoria, Canada, on a bus from Guanacaste to La Fortuna. It turned out we “coincidentally” had the same amount of days there and then were moving on to Monteverde. They ended up being great companions, and we got each other to do ziplining! Truly an experience in stepping outside my comfort zone.
- In Manuel Antonio I met Heather and Cameron, another lovely couple from Victoria, Canada! They not only kindly drove me around the area, but also shared some amazing fruit with me on a day I did not think out my food choices very well.
- In Cahuita, I was so lucky to meet Steve and Brian and Karen who reminded me of family. If not for them, I wouldn’t have gotten to see the beautiful Manzanilla Beach or have companions for several meals.
- One of the low moments of my trip, I realized I felt really ill. Unfortunately, it was just after getting off a shuttle bus which would not come by for 3 hours. Worse yet, it was at the base of a hike, in the middle of nowhere, so there was no public transportation. It was hot, my body felt exhausted, and I knew I wouldn’t make it for 3 hours. I desperately stood by the side of the road, hoping a taxi might come by. Instead, I met an older man. I couldn’t understand him very well, but he appeared to be waiting for some people, and we chatted for about 20 minutes. At this point, his daughter and niece showed up. They offered to drive me to the center of town! I truly understood the meaning of “La Fortuna” (where I was) in that moment. Thanks to them I was able to get out of the heat and take care of myself.
- When I got to Panama I started running low on sunblock. I really didn’t feel like buying any because it was roughly $15 USD for anything worth buying. “Luckily” I met a lovely woman named Jessie on a day tour. She happened to have tons of sunblock and be in Panama for just one week. I didn’t even ask, and she was insisting that I share her tons of sunblock with her to make sure I was protected!
- In La Fortuna, I met a really nice guy, but didn’t get his contact information. Happily, I befriended an amazing woman, Karen, at Vaca Purpura the best coffee shop ever! (By the way, Vaca Purpura means “purple cow” so this friendship was destined!) My horoscope, one day, told me to accept any invitations I got that night. That very day, Karen invited me to dinner with her and her husband. I accepted, and I mentioned the guy to Karen, and she turned out to know him! She connected us and I ended up spending time with a wonderful man.
