One of the reasons it took me so long to decide to completely turn my life on its head to do something “crazy” like travel all the time and revolve work around it was money. How could I possibly afford this? Won’t I run out of money in like a month? Hotel rooms are expensive! What about food, oh my gawd!

Tons of logical thoughts crowded my head and kept me from living the way I dreamed. Now that I am, something amazing and unbelievable has happened. It’s not just that I am making money from unexpected resources, but I am also receiving kindness that I never imagined. So many wonderful people I have met have paid for a meal or a drink though I never expected it. I’ve been blessed to have friends and meet new ones that have offered me a free place to stay, allowing me not just to stretch my budget, but also use some of my budget to forward that kindness to others that need it more than me. Something that just warms my heart and something I never thought would be possible while trying to keep to a budget just for food and lodging.

Budget has also been empowering. I calculated a per diem for myself before beginning my journey. I have written down every expense I have spent in an app called iXpenseIt which allows me to see where I am with my budget each month and what padding I have or don’t have. This makes me feel empowered and like I can really create what I want, even if it’s done modestly for now.

Another unexpected support is meeting wonderful people who have a similar itinerary to your own and want to split a room. Staying in modest accommodation and also splitting the cost of it is a huge help to extend the power of your budget!

So for any of you reading my blog that hope to go on your own adventure and feel held back by a lack of money, remember that you can travel on any budget. You must be willing to live more modestly if you have a smaller budget and you have to remember that help and support really can and does come from places you can’t possibly know, today, but you will be grateful for one day in the future.
