Day 3 in Singapore started with a special treat. I cashed in some free nights at the Marriott Duxton Reserve hotel, and it was awesome! I learned that it was designed by a former Bond girl, Anouska Hempel, making it all the more fun! (Yes, I’m a James Bond fan.)

After leaving my bags at the hotel until check-in time, I headed to the Harbourfront MRT station and purchased a Sky Pass which allowed me to take the cable car to Faber Island and all the cable cars and trains on Sentosa Island. Pro Tip: download the My Sentosa app before you go for an understanding of all the things to see and do on the island.

Faber Peak

While not much to it (a gift shop, a restaurant, toilets, and air conditioning to escape the heat!) it’s worth going for the views. You can see into central Singapore and over to Sentosa Island. Then you get a nice long ride back through Singapore and over to Sentosa Island which is beautiful.

Arriving On Sentosa Island

I loved the cable car ride. It was fascinating to travel between buildings, above highways, and look out over the beautiful blue water, all in one journey. I did note, however, that the return journey was quite windy, and I liked the long-ish ride a wee bit less at that point!

Once you get to the island, you can either go to one of the nearby museums (check opening hours) or take one of the cable cars to another area of the island. Make sure to download the My I jumped on the cable car to the Fort Siloso Skywalk. I’m not a big military buff, but if you are, there’s a historical area to visit. You can also see over to Malaysia. Too bad Covid meant I couldn’t hop over there on this trip.

The Siloso Point Station offers a walk out onto the beach, which is quite beautiful, a chance to take a selfie with the “Sentosa” letters, and, if you want, a walk in nature to get to the other side. (There are also cable cars and beach buses available as transportation.) I started the nature walk thinking I’d enjoy the shade, but it was just too bloody hot to do an hour long walk. The restaurants on the island are pretty expensive, so if you can bring a picnic lunch, or snack, you’ll save yourself lots of money. You may, however, need a respite from the heat, in the form of an ice cream or iced tea!

Palawan Beach

On the other side of the island is Palawan Beach. It offers a bridge where you can stand in what is apparently the Southernmost point in continental Asia. You can swim here, and there are some fun activities. However, I didn’t find his beach nearly as nice as the one by Siloso Fort.

All-in-all, I had a lovely day on Sentosa Island. In fact, if I had more time, I would have stayed overnight. My day was completed perfectly when I got back to the Duxton Reserve. My bags had magically been transported to my room which was unbelievably beautiful. Dark wood, the perfect bed, the perfect shower with a rain-water shower head, a mini-bar and windows!
