Returning to New York for a brief period I became aware of some of my old ways of thinking and being. Everyone is racing someplace. For many, it’s a place they don’t even want to be. I wonder why we are conditioned to spend most of our lives – the part where we are healthy, motivated and ambitious – chasing money that we may, or may not, be able to use when we’re old. If money is the currency that everything revolves around, perhaps it’s time for a new currency.

Towards the end of my travels, I began meeting other people. I’m happy to say many of them had broken from the conformed way of thinking to make happiness their focus. There were people who were ending nine months of travel looking for a short term job so they could get back on the road again. There were others who planned to leave jobs for a couple of months and, two years later, were still enjoying a break. Still others were revolving work around the travel and planning to be on the road for as long as possible.

Suddenly I don’t feel so alone. It turns out there are an awful lot of other people who have turned a crazy dream into a way of life, rather than dreaming about it for their entire life. It gives me even more faith that I can make the space for learning what really brings me joy and let the money happen around that, rather than the other way round. And, once you find other people with similar dreams, you realize they aren’t so crazy after all. 🙂
