Don’t misunderstand me – I know how to put clothes into a machine, and I know how to put them in water with some laundry detergent. But, in Costa Rica I am unable to wash my own clothes.
I don’t mean that I forgot how. I mean, first and foremost, if I wash them in the sink or shower and hang them to dry, there is not enough space or time for them to dry. More importantly, after being in four different cities, there are no laundromats. Not the kind you do your own laundry in anyway. Nope, I have to pay for someone else to wash my clothes in their laundry machine. And, it costs about $15 a pop!
So far, the best laundromat experience was in Quepos. I went to the laundry shop shown here, and ended up meeting Felipe. He is from Peru and had much to tell me about how crazy expensive Costa Rica is (I guess that helped justify when he told me it would cost $15 to wash my clothes, and he based this price on lifting up my laundry bag and placing it to the side. He also recommended a place to eat around the corner, and I’m happy to say he did a super job and folded everything very nicely!
